This article covers the process of creating a prescription from a completed skintest. For more information on the skintest process as a whole, please refer to our Skintests in Summit. A video walkthrough for prescribing from a skintest can be found in the main Prescribing in Summit article.

In Summit, you have the ability to create a prescription with information found in a completed skintest. In short, skintests can be created with scoring protocols that will assign a positive score to antigens with reactions that fall into the parameters of the protocol. More detailed examples of how to administer and create skintests in Summit can be found in the main skintest article. For this example, we are going to be using a skintest that has been completed and contained positive scores.


Like all prescription orders, prescribing from a skintest begins in a patient's chart. Use the Patient Search bar to search for a patient by name, date of birth, or MRN/chart number. Once use patient's chart is open, navigate to User Menu > Windows > Skintest History.



Here you'll see a list of all skintests for a patient that have been recorded in Summit. Each test will show the test name, date completed, who administered the test, and the scores for each antigen. Clicking on the blue Test Date button for the desired skintest will open the skintest. In the skintest window that opens, click the blue Prescribe button to open the order entry window.



The order entry window that appears is initially identical to writing a standard prescription. Follow the standard order writing process of naming the treatment set, selecting a clinic, assigning a prescribing profile, and verifying diluent and vial size preferences. Once these options have all been set, click the Edit button to being the process of adding extracts to the prescription.




Rather than choosing from the list of extracts to add to the order as you would in a standard prescription, instead click the icon, outlined in red above, next to the skintest name and time. This will cause a popup to appear that will allow you to add extracts by class to the prescription. In the example below, all the extracts from the grass class will be added to the prescription. Clicking Add will close the popup and add all the extract from the chosen call to the prescription.




The prescription now looks identical to one written without prescribing from a skintest. You are still able to make any changes needed to the default does, if applicable, and verify all other elements of the the prescription are correct. To make additional prescriptions from the skintest, use the <add> button and repeat the steps above. The class chosen in the first prescription will no longer show up in the dropdown list of classes. Once you have verified all the information is correct, clicking Submit and confirming the details on the popup window will add the prescription(s) to the queue.


ENT Note: skintest scoring protocols are configured to bring over ENT dilutions automatically based on the skintest endpoints and in conjunction with your best practices. The dilutions can be changed if needed by using the increment/decrement buttons after adding the extracts to the prescription.
